Alanya Castle, located on a peninsula 250 meters above sea level, offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and the city. This historical fortress, built by the Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I in the 13th century, covers an area of over 10 hectares. It was primarily designed for defense, with its impressive walls stretching 6.5 kilometers for surveillance and protection against attacks from the sea. The castle continued to be significant during the Ottoman period.
Visitors can explore various parts of the fortress, such as the large cisterns, the inner fortress, the palace area, the armory, and Suleymaniye Mosque, one of Alanya’s oldest mosques. The area surrounding the castle, filled with hotels, restaurants, cafés, and souvenir shops, is perfect for relaxing after a tour. The castle also offers panoramic views, providing a great opportunity to capture stunning photographs of the coastline and golden beaches.
