Description
Another fascinating landmark that will immediately catch your eye during your trips to Alanya is the famous Red Tower (Kızıl Kule). Built in 1226 by Alaeddin Keykubad I, it is considered one of the most impressive structures left by the Seljuks. The Red Tower, surrounded by 12.5-meter-high walls, stands 33 meters tall. It gets its name from the red stones used in its construction and was designed for defense purposes. You can reach the top of the tower by climbing an 85-step stone staircase.
The tower is designed with five floors, and from the viewing area at the top, you can enjoy stunning views of both the Mediterranean Sea and Alanya. You can also visit the Alanya Ethnography Museum, located on the ground and first floors, where you can explore artifacts reflecting Alanya’s traditional lifestyle and culture, spanning from the Seljuks to the Ottomans. As a monumental structure, the Red Tower is a must-visit site, and with its sturdy construction and unique design, it is one of the historical treasures that architecture enthusiasts should definitely see.
